Start-Ups Get Access to Silicone Valley

ENTERPRISE IRELAND should be measured on the number of Nasdaq-quoted companies created here and not just on job creation, a leading entrepreneur has suggested.johnhartnettMicahelNoonan

Speaking in Limerick yesterday, Silicon Valley investor John Hartnett called on the Government to focus on creating billion-dollar companies in Ireland.

The founder and president of the Irish Technology Leadership Group noted there were 130 Nasdaq-quoted companies in Israel today, while Ireland had just three.

Minister Visits ManageCO2

“LIMERICK Institute of Technology (LIT) has been praised by the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment, Mary Coughlan, for creating start-up companies that hope to become Ireland’s future business success stories. Dr Fergal Barry, Head of Development, LIT, said he was delighted to welcome the Tánaiste last Friday to the Enterprise Acceleration Centre at the college. The centre in question currently hosts 20 start-up companies with 60 staff, which are aiming to become successful in 2010.ministervisit

Three companies that have completed the LEAP programme also met with the Tánaiste, Emutex a software engineering company; ManageCO2, a software development company providing quality solutions to help global organisations manage report and reduce their Greenhouse Gas emissions and Carbon footprint, in accordance with the internationally recognized standards and best practices; Cauwill Technologies, a spinout company from the University of Limerick, focusing on providing a single coherent technology to empower the mobile, web and personal navigation experience. ”
