The Carbon Disclosure Project has become a key part of a fund managers tools. Since 2009 all wall street Bloomberg trading terminals can view the Carbon Disclosure project report and results for a particular company. The rationale is that investors are becoming increasingly environmentally aware, and are acutelyt aware of the risks of an un-environemntally friendly investment.
This coupled with the fact that a company which has its carbon footprint under control, is a company which is on top of any such carbon liability should legislation impact the company.
